It’s official — Fox has decided to end The Great North after five seasons, bringing an emotional close to one of the network’s most heartfelt animated comedies.

Created by sisters Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, with Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard serving as executive producer, the series became a quiet favorite among fans for its warm humor, offbeat storytelling, and authentic portrayal of family life in Alaska.

Fox Confirms the End of The Great North

Speculation about the show’s fate had been growing since The Great North was missing from Fox’s 2025–26 primetime lineup announced earlier this year. On Friday, the network officially confirmed what many fans feared — The Great North will not return for a sixth season.

“We’re so grateful for everything Wendy, Lizzie, Loren and the amazing cast and crew brought to The Great North,” said Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television Network. “It’s never easy to say goodbye, but we’re thankful for five wonderful seasons that added so much laughter to our Animation Domination family.”

The decision marks the end of a four-year run for the beloved animated sitcom, which premiered in January 2021 and aired its final episode on September 14, 2025.

Creators Share a Heartfelt Farewell

Following the announcement, co-creator Wendy Molyneux posted an emotional message on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the show’s cast, crew, and loyal viewers.

“Before I sundown this account, I just want to thank everyone who worked on The Great North! You made a beautiful show — it still exists and always will,” Molyneux wrote. “And to our small but proud group of fans — keep recommending it. You never know! Animation never dies!”

She also used the post to highlight the talented animators, writers, and producers who helped shape the show’s distinct voice and heartfelt tone, encouraging studios and networks to hire them for future projects.

The Magic of The Great North

Produced by Bento Box Entertainment and 20th Television Animation, The Great North centered around the quirky Tobin family from fictional Lone Moose, Alaska.

At the heart of the series was single father Beef Tobin (voiced by Nick Offerman), who tried to keep his eccentric children close — especially his creative daughter Judy (voiced by Jenny Slate), whose artistic dreams often pulled her beyond the family fishing boat and into the bustling world of the local mall.

The lovable ensemble also included Wolf (Will Forte), Honeybee (Dulcé Sloan), Ham (Paul Rust), and the wise-beyond-his-years youngest sibling Moon (Aparna Nancherla). Rounding out the cast was Megan Mullally as Judy’s boss Alyson and Alanis Morissette — playing herself — who appeared to Judy in the Northern Lights as her celestial confidant.

A Hidden Gem in Fox’s Animation Lineup

Though The Great North never achieved the mainstream recognition of Bob’s Burgers, it earned critical praise and a loyal following for its heartfelt storytelling, sharp humor, and stunning depictions of the Alaskan wilderness.

The series received a Critics Choice Award nomination in 2022 and an Annie Award nomination in 2025, securing its place among the standout animated shows of the decade.

A Bittersweet Goodbye — But Not the End

For fans, saying goodbye to the Tobins feels like losing a group of old friends. Yet, as Wendy Molyneux reminded everyone, the spirit of The Great North lives on.

“Animation never dies,” she said — a fitting farewell for a series that celebrated imagination, family, and the beauty of life’s small moments.
