Former boxing world champion Ricky Hatton is believed to have taken his own life, according to findings shared at the opening of an inquest in Stockport.

Hatton, 46, was found dead at his home in Hyde on 14 September 2025 after a call from a concerned neighbour, later identified as his manager, Paul Speak. Police confirmed that Hatton was pronounced dead at the scene.

The retired boxer, known for his honesty about his battles with depression and substance abuse, had last been seen by family members two days before his death and appeared to be in good spirits. When he failed to show up for a planned event and a flight to Dubai, Speak went to check on him and discovered his body.

Thousands of fans lined the streets for Hatton’s funeral, paying tribute to one of Britain’s most beloved fighters. The full inquest is set to take place at Manchester South Coroner’s Court on 20 March 2026.
