At a press event in Tokyo — where Johnny Depp recently opened his art exhibition A Bunch of Stuff — the actor spoke warmly about the years he spent with his former partner, Vanessa Paradis. Looking back on their time raising their children together, Depp said that period was “bliss.”
“I have nothing but incredible memories from those days. They gave me time to be a tour father,” he recalled, referring to the times when Vanessa was on tour — giving him the chance to simply be “daddy” while she focused on her shows. He even referenced the title of Vanessa’s 2000 album, Bliss, saying “It was bliss.”
Depp and Vanessa were together from 1998 to 2012, and they share two children.

Beyond his reflections on family life, Depp used the Tokyo event to mention that art — whether painting, drawing or other creative work — remains a necessity for him. He said that without creative expression, “my brain will explode.”
Today, the actor appears to be in a more reflective phase — looking back at a chapter of his life he clearly remembers fondly. Despite the ups and downs that followed later, those earlier years seem to hold a special place in his memories.
