CHAMBLEE, Ga. — Music star Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Badara Thiam, was briefly taken into custody by Chamblee Police on Friday after officers discovered he had an active warrant out for his arrest.
According to authorities, officers were alerted just after 11 a.m. when a Flock safety camera system flagged a vehicle connected to a person with a bench warrant. The car was found parked outside Tint World, a business located along Chamblee Dunwoody Road.
When police arrived at the scene, they confirmed the vehicle was registered to the “Locked Up” singer — who was reportedly standing nearby. Officers approached Akon, informed him of the warrant, and took him into custody without incident.
Police say Akon was cooperative throughout the encounter. He was transported to the DeKalb County Jail, where he was booked and later released after several hours.
Background on the Bench Warrant
According to records from the Roswell Police Department, the 51-year-old artist was initially cited back in September after officers discovered him stranded in a white Tesla Cybertruck on Holcomb Bridge Road. At the time, police learned his driver’s license had been suspended due to a prior failure to appear in court, and the vehicle was subsequently impounded.
Just two months later, Thiam was reportedly taken into custody again on a related bench warrant. He was booked into Smyrna City Jail after being transferred from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, per official documents.
While details about the latest arrest remain limited, Akon’s representatives have not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
