Arturo Gatti Jr. Dies at 17 in Mexico

Arturo Gatti Jr., the teenage son of late Canadian boxing legend Arturo Gatti, has died at just 17 years old in Mexico — a little more than sixteen years after his father’s tragic passing.
According to the French-Canadian outlet TVA Nouvelles, Gatti Jr. was found dead in a Mexico apartment where he was staying with his mother, Amanda Rodrigues. Authorities confirmed that the young man was discovered hanging, in a painful reminder of how his father was found back in 2009.
The heartbreaking news was first shared by actor and former boxer Chuck Zito, a longtime friend and bodyguard of Gatti Sr. Zito posted several photos of the father and son on Instagram, writing, “It’s with a heavy heart that I say R.I.P. to 17-year-old Arturo Gatti Jr., who was found hanging in an apartment in Mexico yesterday — the same way they found his father 16 years ago.”
Arturo Gatti Sr., one of boxing’s most beloved and fearless fighters, died in 2009 at age 37 while on vacation in Brazil. Though his wife, Amanda Rodrigues, was initially accused of murder, the case was later ruled a suicide — a conclusion that remains controversial to this day.
Since news of Gatti Jr.’s passing broke, tributes have been flooding in from fans and fellow boxers. Former world champion Jean Pascal shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, saying, “Sixteen years after losing his father, the world loses another Gatti. The son of a legend — two fighters, one legacy. Both gone far too soon.”
Only two weeks before his death, Gatti Jr. posted an AI-generated image on Instagram that showed him standing beside his late father in boxing gear — a haunting final image that now feels like a goodbye.
Around the world, boxing fans are grieving the loss of a young life with a legendary name, remembering both Arturo Gatti Sr. and Jr. as fighters whose spirits will never be forgotten.
