‘Bugonia’ to Host Early Screening for the Bald — or the Bold Willing to Shave

Bugonia

Only Yorgos Lanthimos could dream up a promotion this bizarre — and brilliant. His new film Bugonia is getting an early screening, but with a twist: to get in, you either need to be bald or agree to have your head shaved right there at the theater.

The exclusive event takes place Monday night at the Culver Theater in Los Angeles. Fans of Lanthimos’ offbeat worlds and Emma Stone’s fearless performances are invited to attend, but they’ll have to commit to the look. A barber will be on-site from 6 p.m. to start shaving heads, and the movie rolls at 8 p.m.

Fresh off its Venice Film Festival premiere, Bugonia stars Stone as a sharp, no-nonsense CEO who gets kidnapped by two conspiracy junkies, played by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis. Convinced she’s an alien plotting Earth’s demise, the duo takes matters into their own hands — with predictably chaotic results.

The head-shaving stunt isn’t just a gimmick; it’s part of a growing Hollywood trend of immersive screenings. Just last month, Lionsgate hosted an advance showing of The Long Walk, where attendees had to keep walking on treadmills to stay in their seats.

With Bugonia set for limited release on October 24 and a wide rollout on Halloween, this buzzworthy event ensures the film will be talked about long before it hits theaters nationwide.

So the only question left is — how far would you go for an early viewing?
