Legendary gospel singer and worship leader Dr. Ron Kenoly has passed away at the age of 81, leaving behind a powerful legacy that shaped modern Christian worship worldwide.
The news of his death was confirmed on February 3, 2026, through a statement shared on his official Instagram page by Kenoly’s longtime music director, Bruno Miranda. While the cause of death was not disclosed, tributes have begun pouring in from gospel artists, pastors, and fans around the world.
Miranda, who worked closely with Kenoly for over two decades, described the late singer as more than just a mentor—calling him a spiritual father. He emphasized Kenoly’s deep commitment to his ministry and noted that the gospel icon never considered himself an entertainer.
“He was never an artist. He was a worship leader,” Miranda wrote.
“And he took time to teach what that truly meant.”
According to the statement, Kenoly firmly believed that worship was not a performance, but rather bringing people into God’s presence with humility and gratitude. He often taught that true worship is not based on the expectation of what will be received in the future, but rather on gratitude for what Christ has already done.
Miranda further stated that Kenoly lived a life of the same integrity and reverence offstage as he did in front of large crowds, and emphasized obedience, character, and devotion as the foundation of worship.
Following this announcement, prominent gospel artists paid tribute to the late worship leader. Nigerian gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey paid tribute to Kenoly on Instagram, acknowledging his influence on generations of worshippers.
“Thank you for inspiring generations of psalmists like me,” Bassey wrote.
“I grew up on these songs, and today others are growing up on ours.”
Ron Kenoly was widely acclaimed for timeless worship songs such as “Majesty,” “Righteousness, Peace and Joy,” “Anointing,” “All Honor,” and “Sing Out.” His music became a cornerstone in churches worldwide and helped redefine congregational worship in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.
Although he is no longer with us, Ron Kenoly lives on through his voice, teachings, and spiritual influence in the lives of countless people and through the worship leaders he inspired.
