HGTV pulls ‘Rehab Addict’ after Nicole Curtis apologizes for racist slur

HGTV has pulled the long-running home improvement series Rehab Addict, after a video showed host Nicole Curtis using a racist slur during filming.

The network confirmed that it had recently become aware of an “offensive racist comment” made while taping the show. In response, HGTV has removed the series from all of its platforms, saying that the language used did not reflect the channel’s values or commitment to respect and inclusion.
The video, which was posted online, shows Curtis using the slur and then immediately reacting in shock, requesting that the moment be cut from the recording. According to reports, the clip was filmed about two years ago.
Following the controversy, Curtis addressed the situation on social media. She admitted that the word was wrong and apologized, saying that it was not part of her vocabulary.  Curtis also said that his current focus is on his family and personal relationships rather than his career.

“I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong,” he wrote, adding that he is committed to being transparent and honest.

Rehab Addict was a staple on HGTV for more than a decade, with Curtis known for restoring old homes and preserving historic details. The show’s removal is a significant step forward for both the network and the longtime host.

HGTV reiterated that it is committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment in its programming and workplace.
