“Home Improvement” Alum Zachery Ty Bryan Arrested Again — Jailed for Probation Violation

Former child star Zachery Ty Bryan, best known for playing Brad Taylor on the 1990s sitcom Home Improvement, was booked into the Lane County Jail in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday, November 29, 2025, after allegedly violating the terms of his probation. According to jail records, he was denied bail and is expected to remain behind bars at least until December 3.

Bryan had been serving a three-year probation sentence imposed in 2023 following a guilty plea for a fourth-degree assault charge in a domestic-violence case. The probation — which includes strict conditions like no contact with the victim — was scheduled to last until October 2026.

Arrest Also Involves His Girlfriend

Alongside Bryan, his girlfriend — Johnnie Faye Cartwright — was also arrested during Saturday’s incident, and booked into the same jail. She faces multiple serious charges including driving under the influence (DUII), three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of attempted first-degree assault. Her arraignment was scheduled for Monday, December 1.

Current records indicate Cartwright remains in custody. Meanwhile, the probation-violation charge has landed Bryan back behind bars, escalating yet another chapter in his long history of legal troubles.

A Pattern of Legal Troubles Over Years

This is reportedly the sixth time Bryan has been arrested within the last five years.

His legal troubles trace as far back as 2020, when he was first arrested in Oregon following a violent domestic incident involving Cartwright. Although multiple charges were initially filed at that time, Bryan ultimately pleaded guilty to misdemeanors — including menacing and fourth-degree assault — and avoided prison, receiving probation instead.

Despite the probation, he continued to face a string of arrests in subsequent years, including DUI charges in different states and further allegations of domestic violence.

When Fame Doesn’t Pay Off

Once a familiar face on American television, Bryan’s descent into repeated legal issues illustrates a tragic fall from his earlier success. His role on “Home Improvement” made him recognizable to a generation of viewers — but that fame did not shield him from personal and legal turmoil.

Observers and fans have expressed concern, especially over the safety and welfare of the children reportedly involved in these turbulent family circumstances.

What’s Next

Bryan remains jailed without bail for the probation violation. His girlfriend, Cartwright, is facing multiple serious charges and is awaiting arraignment. The coming days may shed more light on the exact circumstances that triggered this latest arrest, including whether further criminal charges will be filed against Bryan.
