Westfield High School Lockdown Lifted After Shooting Threat; No Injuries Reported

Westfield High School

WESTFIELD, Ind. — September 29, 2025 — Westfield High School was briefly placed on lockdown Monday afternoon after administrators received a threat that someone intended to “shoot people” on campus. Police quickly investigated and later confirmed the report was unverified. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.

How the Lockdown Began

The situation unfolded around 2:30 p.m., when school leaders notified parents of a “potential threat” at the high school on North Union Street. Out of caution, officials requested an increased police presence on campus while students and staff remained in secured classrooms.

In a Facebook update, Westfield Police explained that the school administration’s phone line had received the threat. Officers immediately responded, moving quickly to clear the building and reassure those inside.

“The school administration line received an unverified threat of someone threatening to shoot people at the high school,” the department said. “We understand this is concerning to students, parents, and staff. Please know that our officers are on scene and actively working to ensure the safety of everyone in the building.”

Police Confirm All Clear

By just after 3 p.m., Westfield Police announced there were “no injuries of any kind” and stressed that no shots had been fired. Indiana State Police also joined local officers on campus. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a few young people briefly detained outside, though authorities have not released details about those interactions.

Lockdown Ends, Students Safe

At about 3:30 p.m., Westfield Washington Schools confirmed the lockdown had been lifted.

> “Everyone is safe, and the situation is under control,” the district wrote in an update to parents. “We will share additional details as they become available.”

An internal email also urged families to avoid the campus during the response, giving police and emergency crews space to do their jobs.

Reactions From the Community

Photos and videos from the school showed students gathering outside once the lockdown ended, and at least one classroom door was visibly barricaded from the inside. Parents and families flooded social media with both relief and frustration as they waited for updates during the tense hour-long situation.

Local outlets FOX59 and CBS4 reported that they witnessed some students being handcuffed by police, though no explanation has been given.

What Comes Next

Authorities have not yet shared who made the call or whether any arrests will be made. School officials say they will continue to work with law enforcement to review what happened and ensure safety procedures remain strong.

Classes are expected to continue as scheduled on Tuesday.
