Not much is officially known about Kim Jong-un’s daughter, although she appears frequently in North Korean state media. The government has never confirmed her name, only referring to her as his “respected” or “most beloved” child.
Many believe her name is Kim Ju-a. This idea comes from former NBA star Dennis Rodman, who said he held Kim’s baby daughter during a visit to North Korea in 2013. South Korean intelligence officials believe she was born the same year.
In 2023, South Korean intelligence also reported that Kim has two other children – an older son and a younger child whose gender is unknown.
North Korea has always been ruled by male members of the Kim family since its founding in 1948. Leadership has passed from Kim Il-sung to his son Kim Jong-il and then Kim Jong-un.
Kim Jong-un was only 26 when he was officially designated as heir apparent. After her father’s death in 2011, she quickly assumed power with little preparation. Some experts believe this experience may explain why she brought her daughter into the public eye at a young age.
While her future role remains unclear, her public appearances have sparked speculation about North Korea’s leadership plans.
